Open Water Diver Course

The starting point for all those who want to learn to scuba dive. The minimum age for certification is 10. Once you are certified, the rating of Open Water Diver will qualify you for most recreational diving. That simply means that you would be qualified to dive to the recommended sport diving limit of 100 feet. Certain dives which are considered "advanced dives", would be beyond the skill level of someone certified as an Open Water Diver. In order to make an advanced dive, more training than is offered in the Open Water Diver course would be necessary.

Specialty Diver &
Advanced Open Water Diver Courses

You may be a veteran diver or you may have just begun to experience the underwater world and are now ready to learn advanced techniques that will allow you to become a true aquanaut. Learning these techniques is a two-fold process. First, there is advanced training. In your Open Water course, your instructor touched upon a variety of specialized diving fields. These areas can be very important to you as they help increase your comfort level and diving proficiency. Secondly, there is experience. There is no better way to perfect your diving skills than to utilize them. Advanced classes provide the perfect setting in which to increase your knowledge in these areas. Advanced instruction serves many purposes. It is highly informative; it teaches you skills which allow you to explore new areas of diving safely, armed with specialized knowledge and training; and, advanced instruction also serves to give you more diving experience. Scuba Schools International has spent years developing a state-of-the-art advanced program which incorporates a variety of specialized instructional components. These components address many subjects which allow you to perfect your diving skills and develop new skills.

Whether you are a veteran diver or have relatively little diving experience, our advanced program is designed to make you a safer, more competent and more experienced diver. So when you are ready, let us enroll you in a new diving program designed to strengthen your knowledge and train you to react responsibly under a variety of diving conditions and situations.

Stress/Rescue Diver Course

Generally considered the most valuable of all advanced courses, Stress/Rescue will teach you to recognize stress in yourself as well as your dive buddy. It will also teach you valuable techniques to deal with that stress before it leads to something more serious, such as panic or an accident. In addition, you'll learn to make self-rescues and buddy rescues and various methods of bringing an injured or panicked diver to the surface safely and then towing your buddy back to the dive boat. Ideally, these are skills you will never utilize, but it is certainly nice to know them if the need ever arises.

Dive Control Specialist

Experienced divers often want to move on to the instructional level, and the Dive Control Specialist course allows them to do just that. The DiveCon course, as we call it, will essentially make the diver an assistant instructor or "divemaster." During the course, DiveCon candidates learn, among other skills, how to lead groups of people on dive trips; how to deal with various in-water situations; how to assist instructors during classroom and pool training in the Open Water Diver course; and, they learn to teach the SSI Open Water Refresher and Snorkeling classes.
